3D Design
We use the latest release of Autodesk Inventor Suite to create accurate components and parts in a 3 Dimensional workspace. This gives us incredible flexibility and most importantly; accuracy to ensure that your finished product will perform exactly as required. Designing directly in 3D with solid modelling software offers so many advantages over conventional 2D Draughting; as well as ensuring precise geometry, standard parts can be saved into library files and reused, weights can be accurately predicted and importantly to some sectors, centre of gravity points can be generated for individual parts and complete assemblies alike, significantly reducing design time.
The image shown below is one such project, we were required to make an iPod docking station (for full details of the project please see our Case Studies section), for the armrest of a private aircraft. This presented numerous problems, particularly ensuring that the iPod would not fall from the dock during aircraft manoeuvres whilst also fitting into the very limited space offered by the armrest. Accurately modelling the armrest, an iPod and a standard iPod connector cable, ensured that fits and tolerances could be checked against ‘real’ components within the 3D workspace during design of the dock. Several concepts where considered and dismissed before deciding on a final design. The model was presented to the customer for approval before being emailed to the work shop to quote for machining costs, all by graphical representation.
